Definition
A quiz funnel is a landing-page pattern where the visitor answers a short series of questions before reaching the offer. The questions serve two purposes: engagement (answering builds commitment and time-on-page, which lifts conversion) and qualification or personalisation (the answers can tailor the recommendation or filter out poor-fit users).
At the end, the quiz presents a result — often framed as a personalised match — with a call to action to the offer.
Quiz funnels convert well on cold traffic because the micro-commitments of answering pull the user toward the outcome. The same psychology is why they are scrutinised: a quiz that asks questions with no bearing on the result, or that manufactures a sense of a tailored recommendation that is really the same for everyone, is manipulative rather than helpful.
In context
For iGaming, quiz funnels are common for casino and betting offers and sit in a grey zone depending on how they are built. A compliant version asks genuinely relevant questions (preferred games, market, deposit method, experience level) and uses the answers to give a real recommendation among licensed operators, with accurate information, disclosure that it is affiliate content, age verification early in the flow, and responsible-gambling messaging.
This is a legitimate personalisation tool.
A non-compliant version uses the quiz as pure persuasion theatre: irrelevant questions, a fake "calculating your match" delay, an invented "you qualify for" result, urgency and scarcity, and a recommendation driven entirely by commission rather than fit. It may also front-load excitement and defer the age gate and terms.
That crosses into misleading practice. The practical line for affiliates is that a quiz funnel must deliver a genuine, accurate outcome for the answers given, disclose its commercial nature, verify age before the offer, and carry safer-gambling messaging — if the questions are decoration and the result is predetermined marketing, it is deceptive regardless of how well it converts.
As with all affiliate creative, the quiz and its result screens are published advertising subject to the market's code.
Worked example
An affiliate builds a quiz funnel that asks about preferred games, market and budget, verifies age on the second screen, and returns a genuine ranked match among licensed operators with accurate terms and a responsible-gambling line, disclosed as affiliate content. It rejects a higher-converting template with irrelevant questions and a fake calculating delay.
