Definition
The gambling vertical, in affiliate marketing, is the category of offers built around online casinos — slots, live dealer, table games, crash games and instant games. It is one of the two core iGaming verticals alongside betting, and it is characterised by high customer lifetime value, strong RevShare economics, heavy regulation, and advertising restrictions on most mainstream platforms that shape how traffic is acquired.
Gambling offers pay on RevShare (a share of net gaming revenue for the life of the player), CPA (a fixed sum per qualified first deposit), or hybrid. Because a retained casino player can generate value for months or years, RevShare is often the more lucrative model for affiliates with durable traffic, while media buyers with tight unit economics favour CPA.
The vertical's regulation varies enormously by market — fully licensed and advertisable in some, prohibited in others — so the same offer can be a compliant white campaign in one country and unservable in the next.
In context
Acquiring gambling traffic splits into two worlds. White campaigns run in regulated markets on certified paid-search and social accounts, with compliant creatives, licence disclosure, age-gating and responsible-gambling messaging; they are stable and expensive.
Grey campaigns run gambling on platforms that ban it, using cloaking, disposable accounts and other terms-violating workarounds; they are cheap per action, unstable, and carry legal and reputational risk. An affiliate's whole operating model — durable SEO and compliant paid media versus disposable-account arbitrage — usually follows from which of these it does.
The vertical also carries obligations that other affiliate categories do not: no advertising to minors, mandatory responsible-gambling content, accurate bonus-terms representation, and promotion only of operators licensed for the market being reached. Directory research matters because the value of a gambling offer depends heavily on the brand's retention and net-revenue transparency, its payment coverage by GEO, and its licensing — factors that are not visible in the headline commission rate.
Worked example
An SEO affiliate builds a casino-review site for two regulated markets, running only licensed operators on RevShare, with licence checks and responsible-gambling links on every page. A separate media-buying team runs the same brands on CPA via grey social campaigns in unregulated markets.
Both are "gambling vertical" but their economics, risk and infrastructure have almost nothing in common.
