In brief

Yandex Metrica is Yandex's free web analytics platform, the dominant analytics tool on Runet alongside Google Analytics.

Definition

Yandex Metrica is Yandex's free web analytics platform, the dominant analytics tool on Runet alongside Google Analytics. It covers the standard analytics ground — traffic sources, audience, behaviour, conversions ("goals"), e-commerce — and adds behavioural tools that Metrica is specifically known for: Session Replay (recording real user sessions), heatmaps for clicks, scroll depth and mouse movement, form analytics, and a "link map" showing which links on a page get used.

Metrica integrates tightly with Yandex Direct, feeding goal completions back for automated bidding and building retargeting segments, and it reads Yandex's own search and geo data. For any site whose audience is in Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan or nearby markets, Metrica is effectively a required second analytics install because it sees Yandex-sourced traffic and behaviour in detail that GA does not.

In context

For iGaming affiliates working Russian-language and CIS traffic, Metrica is the practical analytics tool because so much of the traffic and search behaviour runs through Yandex. Session Replay and heatmaps are genuinely useful on affiliate pages for seeing where users hesitate on a comparison table or drop before an offer click, and goal-based conversion tracking to outbound offer clicks mirrors what an affiliate would set up in GA4.

The cautions are the same as for any client-side analytics plus a couple specific to the vertical. Metrica is a behavioural and marketing tool, not the payment ledger — the affiliate's revenue is the operator's postback and statement, and Metrica's outbound-click goals will not match FTDs.

Session Replay records user interactions, so it must not capture payment fields or personal data, and its use has to sit within the site's privacy notice and the applicable data-protection rules. And because Metrica ties into Yandex Direct, its data is most valuable when the affiliate is also buying Yandex traffic; for a pure-SEO affiliate it is mainly a behavioural-insight and Yandex-traffic-visibility tool.

Worked example

An affiliate targeting CIS casino traffic installs Metrica alongside GA4. Session Replay shows mobile users on the main review page repeatedly tapping a non-clickable operator logo instead of the adjacent CTA button. Making the logo a link to the same offer raises the outbound-click goal by a quarter, later visible as more registrations in the operator report.
