Online casino becomes Denmark's largest gambling sector

Denmark's online casino GGR reached DKK 4.3bn in 2025, becoming the largest gambling sector as the online share climbed to 73%.

Denmark's gambling market shifted considerably between 2020 and 2025. While overall GGR declined, the market continued moving toward online play, according to data from the Danish gambling regulator.

Total GGR fell from around DKK 12.74 billion in 2020 to DKK 11.52 billion in 2025, a decline of roughly 9.7%. Online casino accounted for 38% of GGR in 2025, up from 31% in 2020, overtaking lotteries as the country's largest gambling category after taking the lead in 2024.

Online casino GGR grew from DKK 3.911 billion in 2020 to DKK 4.309 billion in 2025. Betting told a different story, falling around 32% over the same period, from DKK 3.147 billion to DKK 2.130 billion, with mobile's share of betting GGR rising from 54% to 71% while retail betting fell from 31% to 13%.

Monopoly lottery GGR also declined, dropping from DKK 4.007 billion to DKK 3.492 billion, a fall of around 13%. Lotto and number games made up 79% of that category's 2025 GGR, with class lotteries at 12% and scratch games at 9%.

Online gambling's overall share of Denmark's total GGR climbed from 61% in 2020 to 73% in 2025. Land-based gaming showed a different pattern, with gaming-machine GGR falling from DKK 1.352 billion to DKK 1.181 billion, while land-based casino GGR actually rose from DKK 323 million to DKK 378 million.
