We are hiring a Principal Backend Software Engineer for our Cape Town, South Africa team. You will take a key role in shaping the architecture and technical direction of our platform, designing systems that handle millions of transactions and ensuring our technology scales safely and efficiently.

We are hiring a Principal Backend Software Engineer for our Cape Town, South Africa team. You will take a key role in shaping the architecture and technical direction of our platform, designing systems that handle millions of transactions and ensuring our technology scales safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
• Design, implement and evolve distributed systems that handle high throughput and millions of concurrent transactions
• Act as a go-to expert for backend and infrastructure topics, mentoring teams and raising the engineering bar
• Identify bottlenecks and design scalable solutions that improve availability, latency and cost efficiency
• Establish solid standards for monitoring, alerting and incident management
• Partner with product and business leaders to translate ideas into clear technical roadmaps
• Act as a go-to expert for backend and infrastructure topics, mentoring teams and raising the engineering bar

Requirements
• 10+ years of engineering leadership with a proven track record of delivering large-scale, distributed systems
• Expertise in cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), DevOps practices (CI/CD) and microservices
• Experience with Kafka/RabbitMQ streams and programming languages such as C#
• Demonstrated ability to quickly address production incidents and implement preventive measures
• Proven capability to maintain product quality through unit and end-to-end testing
• Expertise in cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), DevOps practices (CI/CD) and microservices
