Deposit

A deposit is money a player transfers into their account with a gambling operator to fund play.

Definition

A deposit is money a player transfers into their account with a gambling operator to fund play. The first deposit (FTD) is the single most important conversion event in iGaming acquisition, because it turns a registered account into a paying customer and is the point at which most CPA payouts qualify.

Subsequent deposits determine ongoing player value and drive RevShare.

Deposit success depends on the payment stack: which methods are offered for the player's country, the approval rate of each method, the friction of any authentication step, and the minimum and maximum limits. A player who wants to fund but cannot — because their card is declined, their local method is missing, or a 3-D Secure challenge fails — is a lost customer at the last step, and this loss is invisible in registration numbers.

In context

For affiliates, deposit metrics are the truest signal of traffic quality and operator fit. The deposit-to-registration ratio shows how many registered users actually fund; a good affiliate cohort on a well-matched operator might sit around 40–60% in a strong GEO, and a sharp drop points to either a traffic problem (low-intent users) or an operator problem (poor payment coverage in that market).

The second-deposit rate and average deposit size then indicate whether those players will retain and generate RevShare.

Operators tune the deposit experience heavily: surfacing local methods first (Pix in Brazil, UPI in India, instant bank transfer in Europe), pre-filling amounts, offering one-click repeat deposits, retrying soft declines through alternative routes, and timing the first-deposit bonus to land right after registration. Affiliates factor an operator's deposit conversion in a given GEO into where they send traffic, because a brand that converts registrations to funded players at 55% is worth far more per click than one at 30%, regardless of the headline commission.

Worked example

An affiliate's Brazil casino cohort shows a 34% deposit-to-registration ratio, well below its 52% average elsewhere. The traffic looks the same, so the affiliate raises it with the affiliate manager; the operator adds Pix as the default method, and the ratio climbs to 49% for the same traffic within two weeks.
