Definition
On-page SEO is the set of optimisations applied to a web page's own content and HTML to help it rank for its target queries and be understood by search engines. It covers the title tag and meta description, heading structure, the body content itself (relevance, depth, originality, readability), internal links, image alt text, URL structure, structured data, and page-level technical factors such as load speed and mobile rendering.
Unlike off-page SEO, which depends on other sites, on-page SEO is entirely within the site owner's control, which makes it the natural place to start. The goal is not to hit a checklist of keyword placements but to make the page the clearest, most complete and most trustworthy answer to the intent behind its target query.
In context
For iGaming affiliate pages, on-page SEO has a few recurring priorities. The title and description must be unique and specific across what are often hundreds of similar pages.
The content must genuinely cover the topic to at least the depth of the current ranking pages - a review that omits payout testing, licence detail and bonus terms will not compete with ones that include them. Internal links must connect each page to its relevant neighbours (jurisdiction, payment methods, related operators).
Structured data (review, FAQ, breadcrumb) should be present and valid. And affiliate links must be marked sponsored.
The common on-page failures in this niche are templated thinness (500 near-identical pages that each add nothing), keyword-stuffed or auto-generated text that reads unnaturally, missing or duplicate titles and descriptions across paginated and filtered pages, and orphaned pages with no contextual internal links. Fixing these is methodical rather than clever, and it is usually the highest-return work available before any link building, because a page that is not a strong answer will not rank no matter how many links point at it.
Worked example
An affiliate audits 300 operator reviews and finds most share a templated 400-word body, no structured data, and no internal links beyond the menu. It rebuilds 120 of them with original testing notes, valid Review and FAQ schema, and a related-links block, and drops the rest.
Rankings and indexed coverage for the review section improve before any new backlinks are acquired.
