Definition
The adult vertical is the affiliate category of offers for adult content and services — cam sites, subscription content platforms, adult dating, and related products. It is one of the largest and oldest verticals in affiliate marketing, with its own specialist ad networks, traffic sources, tracking tools and payment processors, largely separate from the mainstream ad ecosystem because the major platforms prohibit adult advertising.
Offers pay on revenue share, per subscription, per lead or per pay-per-signup, and the vertical runs almost entirely on non-mainstream inventory: adult tube sites, adult ad networks, pop and banner placements on adult properties. Because it is walled off from Google, Meta and the app stores, the acquisition playbook, the compliance rules (age verification, consent, content restrictions by country) and the payment infrastructure are all vertical-specific.
In context
For iGaming, the adult vertical is relevant mostly as a boundary: adult creatives or adult-adjacent placements are a fast route to losing mainstream ad accounts, and mixing adult and gambling traffic or funnels is a compliance and brand-safety problem for a licensed operator. iGaming affiliates who also run adult keep the two operations strictly separate — separate accounts, separate networks, separate infrastructure — because contamination in either direction is costly.
The vertical also carries heightened legal and reputational risk that leads many mainstream networks and directories to exclude it entirely, in the same way they may exclude certain grey or high-risk categories. Age verification and consent obligations are strict and vary by market, and the payment side is difficult because many acquirers and processors will not serve adult merchants.
An affiliate building infrastructure for iGaming would not casually extend it into adult; the two share little beyond general media-buying skill.
Worked example
An iGaming affiliate that also operates in the adult vertical runs the two on entirely separate stacks — different ad accounts, different networks, different trackers, different staff — after a single shared creative asset once triggered a review that put a gambling ad account at risk.
